When we moved Caribbean Soul to Corpus Christi, we feared two
things: hurricanes and thieves. The first fear was realized during our
first week; the second, just a few weeks later.
In early August, we arrived at our boat on a Friday evening to discover
our sliding hatch busted and our boat ransacked. The thieves had stolen
a few easily-pawned items, drank our beer, and crapped in our toilet.
Oddly, they did not take our brand-new GPS. After calling the police,
we discovered that three other boats had been broken into earlier that
week, with similar items stolen and bodily functions performed. The officer
collected a beer bottle to dust for fingerprints.
The next night, with the whole dock on alert, the thieves struck two
more boats. One boat was even occupied.
A big brou-ha-ha ensued. Locks were changed; lights were fixed. A local
TV station covered the crime and interviewed Nick. Although the police
and marina supposedly know the identities of the perpetrators, no one
has been arrested.
