February/March 2004

Blue Water and Boat Yards

February began with several fabulous sails in Corpus Christi Bay. Then we were off to the Hooking Bull Boat Yard in Rockport for a few weeks. For the first time, we sailed all the way up the Corpus Christi ship channel to Port Aransas. From there, we turned into the Lydia Ann channel, which leads to Rockport. With the wind on our nose and a high incoming tide, the trip up the ship channel was slow-going as we short-tacked and motor-sailed our way among ships, barges, ferry boats, and an incoming navy fleet.

The trip back to Corpus in March was more enjoyable. We couldn't resist a quick side trip into the Gulf of Mexico for Caribbean Soul's first venture into "blue" water. Although we didn't get far from shore, "out there" was just beyond the horizon, beckoning us to keep sailing toward freedom and adventure. But that will be another day....
