As November brought a steady march of cold fronts streaming
across the state, we finally untied the dock lines and ventured
out of our slip. Although hurricane season was not yet over,
the merciless pounding of the Gulf Coast had finally ended.
We glided across Corpus Christi Bay on a steady south wind
and anchored in Ingleside Cove, where we had the place to
ourselves.
Later in the month, John
Kretschmer, author of Flirting with Mermaids and
columnist for Sailing magazine, entertained a group
of Corpus sailors at the Seaman's Center with tales of his
boat delivery misadventures. Later, he was guest of honor
aboard Turning Point, where we had the opportunity
to talk to him in person.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, we spent three days on the
hook at Ingleside (again). We enjoyed getting better acquainted
with Steve and Ann on Sassy Cat, the only other boat
in the cove. Dakota took his first motorized dinghy ride and,
much to our surprise, actually enjoyed it. He even did a little
swimming, an even bigger surprise. I guess he's a saltier
dog than we gave him credit for.

After a swim, a much-needed but unappreciated
