After dodging Hurricane Rita and with the tropics still active,
we left the boat stripped down and tied securely in her slip
during the month of October. A red tide arrived mid-month
and turned the water a murky reddish-brown. By the second
week of the red tide, the stench of decaying fish hovered
over the marina. By the third week, fish carcasses and a reeking
scum had collected in the corners of the marina and on the
north side of Lawrence Street. Disgusting!!!
Despite having the boat mired in a red tide, we still managed
to have some fun. We enjoyed a great view of the national
speed boat races from the BYC balcony and a Halloween party
with BYC ghouls and goblins.
As the month came to a close, we put the sails back on and
crossed our fingers that hurricane season was finally over.
